Blog Due 4/2

After reading Michael Carter's "Ways of Knowing, Doing, and Writing" and thoroughly analyzing the four meta-genres, I have concluded that the "Responses to Academic Situations That Call for Research from Sources." Currently, my major is Business Sustainability. As I read through the meta-genres, I found that my discipline focuses more on finding innovative and sustainable solutions to issues affecting our planet and and environment. In order to do this successfully, one must do research and use primary and secondary resources when proposing solutions. From what I have learned so far about my discipline and what I have been told from my academic adviser, research plays a huge role in my major. As a business sustainability major, you must keep up with the latest technological advancements, the current environmental risks, all while applying multiple business components. This can only be done through research and becoming informed, which is why it is essential that a person in my major is competent in conducting research and applying its outcomes in projects, arguments, problems, etc. Like Carter mentioned in his article, it is crucial that a person in my discipline views literature and research from multiple perspectives. While my major has to do with reducing the stress on the global environment, and improving our quality of life in general, there is also the business side of it that needs to be kept in mind at all times. I believe this makes my discipline a little more difficult when compared to just Sustainability or Business, for both fields of study must be taken into account. One cannot just see the business or the sustainable side of an issue; there must be equality and middle ground between the two. Carter's article provided me with the opportunity to really analyze my discipline in depth and emphasized the importance of research within the major of Business Sustainability.
